This food is a complete and nutritionally balanced vegan diet for kittens to adult cats. This food meets all nutritional requirements according to the Association of American Feed Control Official’s (AAFCO) cat food nutrient profile for kitten/adult cat maintenance.
A natural product with the exception of synthetically produced taurine, niacin and some vitamins, this food contains no artificial colours or
preservatives. All raw ingredients used in this food are of human consumption quality, and where possible organic.
Most of the vitamins, minerals and enzymes are added in a whole food state to enhance absorption, eg. a prebiotic. All whole foods and oils are cold pressed, classified for human consumption and organic.
All other vitamins including all B group vitamins, minerals and calcium are added in balanced amounts to ensure your pet has every nutrient for body building and maintenance of a kitten to adult cat. Amylase, Taurine and L Carnitine are added to ensure well being.
This product is wheat free for allergy sufferers
There is no wheat in this product to help those allergy/eczema sufferers. Soy and Maize are the main protein source with added natural enzymes to begin digestion and aid absorption.
Essential fatty acids
Organic flaxseed oil and sunflower oil are included as sources of Linoleic acid. This acid is broken down into a balance of Omega 3 and Omega 6, essential long chain fatty acids. Actual long chain tare/acids Docosahexanoic Acid (DHA), Arachadonic Acid (Aa) and Elcosapentanoic Acid (EPA) have also been added. These ingredients assist cats who cannot efficiently break down Linoleic Acid which is for good health and a healthy coat and skin and general well being.
Natural enzymes have been added to assist in pre-digestibility of fibre. This is an essential ingredient for cats due to their short gastrointestinal tract and rapid rate of food passage. With a low PH, this food assists in the prevention of urinary crystals, which can be some of the many contributory causes of FLUTD’S (Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease).
All ingredients are human consumption grade where possible.

How to transition your cat to a vegan diet
Change your cat’s diet to our vegan cat food gradually by mixing the old food with 20% of Veganpet cat food, slowly increasing the amount over several days. Veganpet dry cat food can be mixed with Veganpet canned cat food, soya milk, warm water, or any of your vegan favourite foods or given just as it is. Always have fresh clean water available as well as shelter from heat or cold, and remember, lots of love is most important.
To evaluate through a feed trial using adult cats, the intake, palatability, overall apparent digestibility of the dry matter, protein and fat of a Vegan Cat Food formulated and manufactured for Sandy Anderson Pty Ltd (afterwards called Sandy’s Veganpet Cat Food).
Trial Methodology and Management
Twenty-day feeding trial designed, conducted and analysed by Dr Nick Costa, Associate Professor of Biochemistry & Nutrition, Division of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences, Murdoch University. Doreen Hawkins conducted the daily feeding and data recording at Galagold Kennels.
The Vegan Cat Food Formulation has listed specifications of minimum 27% protein and minimum 10% fat. On analysis of a representative sample of Sandy’s Veganpet Cat Foot by an independent laboratory (Venturetech Pty Ltd; NATA endorsed), protein for Sandy’s Veganpet Cat Food was 28.5% (5.5% higher than the minimum). Fat for Sandy’s Veganpet Cat Food was 11.7% (2.7% higher than the minimum). Sandy’s Veganpet Cat Food easily meets the specifications of the formulation.
- All the cats ate the Sandy’s Veganpet Cat Food Formulation, and the palatability was very high. The cats ate on average 24.0 ± 6.9% of the food on offer eaten within 15 minutes and more importantly, the cats ate 69.1 ± 2.2% of the food on offer each day.
- Dry matter digestibility of Sandy’s Veganpet Cat Food Formulation was 76.8 ± 1.9% on Day 20, which is better than expected for a vegan cat food.
- Protein digestibility was 82.7 ± 1.5% on Day 20; is excellent and consistent with the protein digestibilities expected for a premium cat food. Also pleasing was the small variation in the overall result showing the consistency of the product and outcome.
- Fat digestibility was 90.1 ± 2.3% on Day 20; an excellent result for a vegan cat food and even higher than commonly observed for premium cat food. Moreover, the fat digestibilities were very consistent.
- Faecal quality measured as % dry matter was excellent (34.5 ± 3.8% on Day 20) for a premium cat food. The stools were consistent across all cats.
